The Beauty of Belotero

by Sally Teusch

Have you ever heard of Belotero? It is a cosmetic gel filler made from hyaluronic acid. It is used to soften fine lines in areas of the face. It is made by Merz Pharmaceuticals.

There are some unique characteristics which set Belotero apart from other fillers,ie; Juvederm, Restylane and Voluma, which are also hyualuronic acid fillers. Belotero was developed to target those very fine etched-in lines particularily around the mouth. For instance; have you noticed any wrinkles that remain around your mouth, even after you've stopped smiling? Ever see those fine lines around your lips that remain when your not talking or eating? Those lines can be softened and smoothed away with Belotero filler.

Belotero was specifically designed to be placed very superfically in the skin, where the fine etched-in lines appear, without the telltale sign of leaving a bluish tinge to the skin, (called tindal effect), as is possible with all of the other fillers on the market.

Another attribute which sets Belotero apart is it's smooth almost syrupy consistency which allows it to blend into and fill tiny gaps beneath your skin's surface to integrate within your own skin's tissues.

Belotero filler is especially lovely when used directly in the lips. Whether it is used to fill the lip body, or to outline the lip borders, the results are always going to be entirely natural in appearance.

Research has shown that the number one fear for clients who may be considering fillers, especially fillers that are used in and around their lips, is fear of appearing obvous or overdone. This will not occur with the use of Belotero due to it's proprietary technology which is; cohesive polydensified matrix, (CPM). The CPM process allows for Belotero to inot only appear smooth but to also feel natural to the touch, never lumpy. Knowing this, a potential client can be confident when choosing Belotero that they will be pleased with their result.

What's it all about?

by Sally Teusch

The younger gals at work, or in the coffee shop chat about it sometimes. You hear the words leak out from therir conversations; "Botox", "Fillers", or" Had her lips or cheeks filled".  You readily notice that they certainly maintain themselves very well. You think to yourself, gee; was my face that pristine, devoid of lines when I was in my thirties?

Here is the story. Botox hit the market for cosmetic injection use in 2002. Prior to that, Botulinum Toxin A, the bacterium, had been used for purely medical purposes as it's mode of action is to inhibit muscle contraction. It has been used to relax painful muscle spasms and also has enabled the eye muscles of a person suffering from strabismus/cross-eyedness, to relax the eyeball into a more 'normal' position.

The pharmaceutical company, Allergan, recognized a market to use the toxin to inhibit muscle contractions on areas of the face, that when the involved muscles are contracted, the result is the appearance of facial lines of expression. Botox was born. In the following years, competing pharmaceutical companies have jumped onto the bandwagon and have developed and marketed their "Botoxes".  Galderma has Dysport and Merz has Xeomin.

At Aesthetic Solutions Inc. in Lafayette, Co.,  where I practise, we offer all three of the Botulium Toxin A products; that is: Botox, Dysport and Xeomin. I have used all three products and find them to be interchangeable.

In general these products last 3-4 months, sometimes as long as 6 months. Most clients at Aesthetic Solutions choose Dysport as it is by far the most economical.

Eg: To  treat the area between one's brows the number of units required would typically be between 48-60, at a cost of $96.00-$120.00. These prices are based upon the client purchasing a loyalty card for $99.00, which is valid for a year and makes good sense to any client wishing to receive more than one treatment per year.

A treatment consists of reviewing a client's medical history, answering questions, prepping the skin, administering tiny injections of Dysport into the muscles and giving complete aftercare instructions. The entire treatment takes only a few minutes and is relatively painless.

Fillers and the
Aging Face

by Sally Teusch

Most of us look at ourselves in the mirror every day. Usually we don't see any noticeable signs of aging from day to day, yet over time the changes are undeniable. Looking at the photo series of the aging face here, we can readily recognize the changes that occur over time.

Of course we cannot 'stop the clock' or 'reverse the aging process', but we can be proactive by choosing to soften the changes that age our faces.

Fillers are lab created cosmetic pharmaceutical products which are injected into the face for the purpose of plumping up areas of the face which appear deflated or sunken.

Now picture of the facial fullness of a healthy child.  The face is filled out, smooth and without lines, wrinkles or shadowing. We can restore some of our lost facial fullness by adding the subtle volume of cosmetic fillers.

In general, fillers are injected into the cheeks, under eye areas, the lines and wrinkles around the mouth and nose and into the lips.

The fillers discussed here are those made from Hyaluronic Acid and those made from Calcium Hyroxylapatite. Both of these substances are already produced in our bodies and have several beneficial properties.

The Hyaluronic Acid fillers offered at The Good Look are Belotero, Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus and Voluma. The Calcium Hyroxylapatite filler is Radiesee.

Fillers stimulate one's body to increase production of Collagen and Elastin. Collagen is the most abundant protein found in our bodies. It forms a scaffolding or support structure which helps to keep the skin smooth and supple. Elastin is the component in our skin which is responsible for giving skin it's pliability and elasticity. Hyaluronic Acid is hydrolipic, which means that it attracts, or draws water to itself. Therefore the skin becomes more plump as hydration is improved. Calcium Hyroxylapatite provides the most collagen stimulation of these fillers,

With several products, how does one know which facial area to treat and which filler to request?

The answer is that at you are the consumer, not the professional when it comes to cosmetic fillers.  At the Good Look we understand that the world of fillers is complex and we want you to know that we are here to help.

Our medical and nursing staff can educate you, answer all of your questions and develop a treatment plan that will address your very specific concerns. Contact us for your complimentary consultation.

Cheeks!
I Want Cheeks Again!

by Sally Teusch

With out a doubt, having one's cheeks filled with either Voluma or Radiesse is one of the most wholly satisfying filler experiences you can give to yourself.

Here is what Advanced Cosmetic Injectors have learned in the many years since we began using facial fillers: Start with the cheeks!

Used to be that we would begin to restore fullness to an aging face by filling the areas where the lines, wrinkles and shadows first appeared. In many instances that was in the nasolabial folds. These are the lines or 'folds', that run from the nostrils to the outer edges of the mouth.

Also known as 'smile lines'. The problem is that, with time, these lines remain after our smiles have faded. The lines of the nasolabial area become etched- in and apparent even when our smiles are at rest.

Another phenomenon to consider here is that of gravity. As we age, the downward pull of gravity causes a gradual migration of the fat pads in our faces to descend. We begin to see a heaviness in the manner of lines, wrinkles, folds and sagging in the lower part of our faces.

One's natural inclination is to fill in those ares of the lower face, however, consider that the remedy may be found by filling the cheeks, where the volume loss began.

By filling the cheeks, not only are you plumping them up, but you are creating a gentle lift to the sagging skin seen in all areas of the lower face, including the nasolabial folds. The entire mid and lower face, not just the cheeks, will benefit because you are reinforcing the underlying support structure of the face.

Voluma lasts up to two years and Radiesse lasts up to eighteen months. Maybe it's time to see those cheeks again.

At The Good Look we use a gentle hand and an artistic eye when treating you with any filler product. We know that you don't ever want to appear obvious or overdone.

Our medical and nursing staff aim to deliver results that are entirely natural. We will listen to your concerns, assess your facial proportions and discuss your treatment options.

Our approach is to be conservative, to work with you to plan your filler treatments over a gradual time schedule. We do this to try to keep your costs within your budget and to deliver outcomes to meet and possibly to exceed your expectations.

Begin by learning what is possible.  Call or email us today and we'll help you get started.
